Megan Thee Stallion’s Cotton Candy Bob Is the Best Part of Her New Music Video

-

egan Thee Stallion knows how to make a music video. Even her casual freestyle videos are concept-heavy, with lighting, editing, the whole shebang. And in her latest creation, the forever queen of hot girl summer may have outdone herself. “Boa”—which she teased last week with a bedazzled neon manicure—landed Friday, May 10 and features our heroine in not one, not two, but three fun hairstyles.

Before we get into these styles, an explanation is necessary: in the music video, Megan is a character in a video game called, obviously, “The Curse of Thee Serpent Woman.” If you happen to read the rules (does anyone read the rules?) you’ll realize that how you die in the game is how you die in real life. Naturally, no one reads the rules. So she slays ’em. The Houston native’s character in the video is based off a character from the anime/manga series One Piece:  “Pirate Empress” Boa Hancock, who’s known as the “Snake Princess.”

Now, back to these looks. The first time we see Meg, she’s dancing on a giant Dance Dance Revolution-style platform with some minions, wearing a blue-raspberry-candy-colored retro flippy bob with bangs (the bangs are half regular-raspberry-candy-color to keep things really interesting). In the next scene, she wears a latex cap/bolero hybrid that lets her shimmery eyeshadow shine, before the hair is back in its most iconic arrangement—Boa Hancock-inspired long black locks with a harsh cheekbone-length layer up front.

Finally, she appears with a full (side-parted!) head of voluminous curls that flow down to her waist. Truth be told, these hair looks are so good that I barely focused on her manicures—and considering this is Megan Thee Stallion, that’s really saying something.

“Boa” is the third single from Megan’s upcoming and apparently snake-themed album, following “Cobra” and “HISS.” Naturally, the music video for each track has featured a major beauty moment. Alongside its creator, “HISS” starred a chrome French manicure that begged you to examine each nail closely. The scene-stealer of “Cobra” was the artist’s clumpy-chic spider lashes.
